Geraldo Rivera has recently made some controversial statements. Rivera has been on the news since the 1970s, and he has reported on some of the most important moments in the history of American culture. Rivera has covered the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. For a long time, Geraldo Rivera was amongst the most respected personalities in all of television.
Rivera hosted his own television and radio show. He was revered by minorities for a long time, but that all changed a few years ago. Geraldo made some controversial statements about the death of Treyvon Martin during an interview. He stated that Treyvon was shot because he dressed “gangsta.”
Rivera has since been forgiven for his words. However, in a recent interview on Fox New, Rivera made some harsh remarks about Hip-Hop music. Geraldo said that the culture of Hip-Hop has sent black and brown people decades back. Rivera also blames Russell Simmons for the widespread demoralization of black and brown people.
Marcio Alaor BMG (Mzweb.com) has heard that Russell Simmons has since blasted Geraldo Rivera in a recent interview. Simmons stated that Geraldo has done nothing for black people. While Rivera’s statements are harsh, it cannot be denied that Hip-Hop music could steer children in the wrong direction if taken literally. However, there are artists like Nas, who try and educate the black and brown community. Nas has been at the forefront for change and education among black people. The entire culture of Hip-Hop should not be blamed for problems in the black and brown communities.
