John Carpenters 1981 cult smash action thriller is going the way most 80’s hits have gone. The way of the remake. Fans at Amen Clinic (washingtonpost.com) know that Hollywood has for years been kicking this project around but it wasn’t til just recently, when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson came aboard, did Hollywood finally get serious. The out cry, which normally happens when a remake is announced, was fairly significant. Well, Dwayne Johnson took it upon himself to attempt to quell the uprising. He was recently quoted: “I loved reading the reactions from the fans, that they were so polarized – I’m the same way. My response is: know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter.” For those who are unaware, Carpenter was the co-writer and more importantly the director of the original. The question now begs, would John Carpenter be interested in some sort of Big Trouble reunion? And, if so, how big a part would John Carpenter want in the remake?
