The Dark Tower is a book series created by American author Stephen King. It is centered around Roland Deschain, the last of a lineage of gunslingers in magical fantasy setting that combines aspects of the American Old West. Roland is on a quest to find the fabled, Dark Tower that can transport people to other universes.
This movie will be the first of a planned trilogy. The first look at footage from The Dark Tower will be shown at an exclusive event (EW PopFest) on the west coast by Entertainment Weekly some time late this October. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the event because there are often leaked, or producer-provided copies of the preview on YouTube shortly after. The official trailer is scheduled to release some time in December.
IMDb confirms that Matthew McConaughey will star as Roland the gunslinger and Nikolaj Arcel will direct the film. Stephen King’s IT will also be receiving a reboot in 2017.

The first book of the series debuted in 1982 and there have been 7 more since then. In 2016, Arcel stated that The Dark Tower movie would be a sequel to the novels instead of recreation. According to LRM Online the film will be something between a “greatest hits” from the novels, as well as a sequel to it.
