The New Status Symbol of Choice: LED’s

Remember the late 90’s, ringing in Y2K with our brand-new, 40 dollar, CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs to show off to our friends and co-workers, touting how environmentally conscious we were? Now we’re going to usher in 2017 in less than a few months and still over 50% of American households are using incandence bulbs! (popularmechanics) The crazy thing is, these bulbs haven’t been available for purchase anymore. Not since Energy Independence and Security Act was passed in 2007 almost 10 years ago!

Now, we’ve been slowly seeing our old incandescent fixtures go out and our reserves dwindle, we are forced out of comfort zone and forced into choosing a new type of light fixture. LED’s have been on the market for a while now and haven’t received the same kind of hype they deserve that and more. While a CFL is up to 25% more efficient than a traditional incandescent bulb, an LED bulb is up to 75% more efficient.

LED’s have even changed the way we measure lighting! Formerly, we would use the lights wattage as an idea of how bright it will be, but now we have to use lumens, the formal measure of light. This is because with an LED the amount of light it can give is not limited my power supply. Now, an LED bulb with comparable brightness to a 60W incandescent is only 8 to 12 watts. While this can be a bit overwhelming it means big energy savings; up to $150 per incandensent replaced with LED.

Besides energy savings, Gooee’s LEDs will also last you a very long time. Most last 25,000 to 50,000 hours,  put into perspective that is 1,041 to 2,083 days of 24/7 light. LED bulbs typically last around 20 years and you won’t be paying the 1990’s CLF prices, you can pick one of these guys up for $5 – $20 bucks plus most power companies offer rebates for LED purchasers. LED’s are the supreme lighting option for 2017, these bulbs will keep your house and christmas tree beautifully lit and your wallet happy.
