‘Jason Bourne’ Rakes in $60M Opening Weekend, Leaves Some Critics Scoffing

Jason Bourne raked in a whopping $60M opening weekend but left some movie-goers scoffing.

The flick is the latest in the Bourne film series, loosely based on the book series by Robert Ludlum. It is also a follow-up to 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. The film originated with Matt Damon in the leading role as Jason Bourne, a man with amnesia that discovers he is a former member of the military and a trained government assassin with a target on his head.

Some moviegoers found the film disappointing, describing the experience as nothing more than watching people walk around, run up and down stairs, and fast typing. The same set of action film buffs has described the film as lackluster, containing fewer fight sequences than other popular action film series.

Mashable user and film critic Josh Dickey described Jason Bourne as a “soulless slog that feels like a punishment, missing the important suspense and unease that made the first Bourne films successful.” The Movie Insider website, however, rates Jason Bourne as four out of five stars.

The latest installment of the Bourne series had tough competition its opening weekend. The comedy flick Bad Moms, starring Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate, and Kristen Bell, opened July 29 and left movie buffs questioning which film they’d rather see with their hard-earned dollars.
