A Highly-Anticipated War Film’s Posters Arrive This Week

Audiences will see the first signs of a highly anticipated war film this week. Although Christopher Nolan’s historical drama Dunkirk (2017) won’t arrive in theaters until the summer of 2017, the production released two movie posters recently. Both written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the epic revolves around a true event from the War II era.

Scheduled for release on July 21, 2017, Dunkirk (2017) stars some well known British actors, including Kenneth Branagh, a noted Shakespearian performer and leading man and versatile producer and writer Tom Hardy. James D’Arcy, Mark Rylance, Aneurin Barnard, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles, Tom Glynn-Carney, Barry Keoghan, Michael Fox, Adam Long, Bobby Lockwood and Jack Lowden appear in the film. Shot entirely in IMAX film, the epic promises to offer spectacular cinematography. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema worked closely with the director to shoot sweeping coastal and ocean scenes.

Events in the historical drama recount an heroic rescue by thousands of small British civilian boats and fishing trawlers during one of the darkest periods of the Second World War. Surrounded by the Nazis and trapped on the coast of France following the German military blitzkrieg across much of Western Europe, hundreds of thousands of Allied troops appeared to face certain annihilation or capture. The United States had not yet entered the global conflict. Thousands of small British boats faced challenging odds to perform a daring rescue mission across the English Channel during late May and the beginning of June, 1940.
